You could plan your self-driving experience in Iceland yourself, but why? I will do all of the work for you: arranging your flights, hotels, rental vehicle, and daily sightseeing excursions. Many other tour groups include spending each day on a bus filled with people and approximately 20-minute stops at each attraction. Elm Street Photography Tours LLC will provide a personalized self-driving experience that is second to none.
The first time I went to Iceland I traveled on a lot of those "Big Box" tours. It was a good, but costly way to get to know the country. You tell us what you would like to see, and we will formulate a self-driving tour that highlights your vision. Let's take a look at how our self-driving tours differ from a traditional tour, even from those large tour companies that operate all over the world...
Our self-driving experience is 6-night/7-day and includes the following...
Airfare
Direct, round-trip airfare from Boston Logan International Airport, direct flight to Keflavik, Iceland (approximately a five-hour flight). This will include your first checked bag and a personal item carry-on. Elm Street Photography Tours LLC will choose all seats. Other possible departure airports include Baltimore-Washington International Airport, New York Stewart International Airport, and Washington Dulles International Airport.
Hotel Accommodations:
Elm Street Photography Tours LLC will make all of the reservations. All hotels will be comfortable, with three-star and four-star establishments.
Rental Car:
Once in Iceland, a mid-sized SUV (Jeep Cherokee or similar) will be included as part of your self-driving experience price. Any self-driving experience member who will be doing any driving while in Iceland will need to have their name(s) added to the vehicle rental agreement as authorized drivers. Also, as part of the rental, a "$0 Deductible" option will be added for financial security, peace of mind, and a Wifi hotspot unit for unlimited data. The driving commitment of the tour member(s) will consist of approximately two to three hours daily while sightseeing along the way to your next nightly accommodations. There will also be late evening/night driving when locating and viewing the auroras if you so choose.
Logistical information (for adventures without a travel buddy):
Driving in Iceland requires only a standard U.S. driver's license. You may think that driving in a foreign country is difficult or scary, however, I have loads of personal experience driving in Iceland, and it is a straightforward country to drive in, not unlike driving in the States. Driving is done on the right, like in the United States. Before your departure, a Garmin GPS unit will be mailed to you. This GPS unit is large, very easy to use and read, and will be pre-loaded with your itinerary (accommodations, sightseeing adventures, and local favorite bakeries of mine to fulfill your sweet tooth while in Iceland). We will also make sure that you are completely prepared for your adventure when it comes to clothing questions and recommendations, weather in Iceland, and forecasting the auroras! Also included will be a printed, detailed daily itinerary. All you need to do is follow the daily itinerary by choosing each day's locations in the GPS, and you will be sightseeing to your next hotel. Your journey is preplanned by Elm Street Photography Tours LLC, formulated from locations that you have stated you would like to visit. While you are in Iceland, should you have any issues whatsoever, I am available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

- Travel insurance. Elm Street Photography Tours LLC recommends that the tour members purchase travel insurance. While inexpensive (approximately $100.00 +/- per traveler), this insurance can provide not only total trip reimbursement but also medical and dental coverage while abroad.

What is Glamping like with Elm Street Photography Tours?

You get your very own two-person campervan, (6-speed manual transmission, automatic is a slightly higher price), with all camping fees included. This is glamping, not camping. Each campervan is set up with a bed, linens, sleeping bags, pillows, and a built-in heater for those chilly nights.

You set your own schedule to avoid possible bad weather.

We know all of the great campgrounds to stay in, no matter where you are in Iceland. The camping facilities that we will recommend are fantastic, each with private showers, hot running water, and laundry facilities at selected locations.

You do not have to worry about arriving at your hotel by a certain time for check-in, your hotel goes where you do.
